Volleyball ‘Friendly’ against BFS
The boys and girls senior volleyball students were involved in friendly volleyball tournaments against BFS on Monday. The boy’s team travelled to BFS while the girl’s team competed at BIFS. Both teams enjoyed varying degrees of success. Our goals for the tournaments were to build strong ties with BFS, enjoy the competition and to have fun. We achieved all 3 goals.

PTA Coffee Mornings
Every year the PTA enjoy coffee mornings as part of their monthly meetings. The Elementary and Secondary school try to tap into this meeting time by providing interesting and supportive information sessions about the various aspects of the school. Please find attached HERE, the schedule for the year. All parents are invited to attend these sessions which begin at 9.00am and conclude at 10.00am, in time for the PTA meeting. They will always take place in the ELC Hall, 1st floor, Building B, unless otherwise advised.
Managebac in the Secondary School
Managebac is our student learning management platform. It is a very powerful system that allows the curriculum at BIFS to be clearly constructed and easily adjusted over the course of the year. It is also a tremendous tool for parents, as it allows you to view the progress of your child. Amongst other features, it enables you to see the homework that has been set, major assignments and their due dates, comments made by teachers on specific pieces of work etc. Once access has been established, I encourage all parents to check Managebac on a regular basis and to communicate directly with teachers as issues arise.
Here is a link to the form Mr Gysbers has created to begin the process of allowing you access to ManageBac: https://goo.gl/forms/
When able, please respond to this Google Form. Mr Gysbers will send you a welcome e-mail that comes straight from ManageBac. He will also send you a personal e-mail saying that you should have received a welcome e-mail (just in case it didn’t arrive) along with a video explaining the parent portal. Mr Gysbers is happy to have an information session for parents should there be sufficient demand.

Extended Essay – 2018
Every year as an integral component of the IB DP, students in grade 12 are required to write an Extended Essay or EE as many of them refer to it. It is a demanding and challenging research paper that requires dedication and patience. Each student is supervised by a member of the teaching faculty throughout the process. Today in the Secondary Assembly, there was a ceremonial handing over of the essay to the student’s supervisor. Their work on the EE is now complete! Congratulations from all of us!
MHS Assembly – Thursday, 4 October.
The Secondary school assembly was lucky to experience the wonderful performance by Alex, Kevin and Adam. They played superbly, with confidence and great rhythm – well done.
“ISB MHS Choral students are invited to Shanghai!
From the school nurse
There is a noticeable fluctuation in temperature these days between morning and afternoon. We know that when our body does not adjust accordingly to the severe temperature changes, our natural immunity drops and we may become sick.
We feel that it is a good time to review our procedures regarding children who are sick at school. If your child gets sick, it is often most appropriate to keep him/her home from school. A child who is sick will not be able to perform well in school and is likely to spread the illness to other children and staff.
Please refer to attached school illness guidelines – HERE.
Flu(Influenza) season is upon us which means it is the perfect time to think about getting your annual flu vaccine. It takes up to two weeks to develop immunity against the flu, so now is the ideal time to be vaccinated before flu season peaks. (Usually from November to April)
Getting an annual flu vaccine is the best way to protect yourself and your family from the flu. Flu vaccination can reduce flu illness, doctor’s visit, and missed school due to flu, as well as prevent flu-related hospitalizations.
The flu vaccine is now available at the pediatric, clinics or hospitals.

Whole School House Activities
As part of the new Student Life structure in the Middle and High School, we are working hard on integrating whole school activities, today was an example of that. Students from the Kindergarten all the way up to Grade 12 mixed in their Houses. They were working out the 5 most important traits that are represented in their House. Below you can see students in groups mixed up into Jirisan, Hallasan, Gayason and Soeraksan.
